Kildysart Sunsets

by Maur Byrne

about

This is a modern ballad about a modern girl who left to seek her fortune in the big city. After all those years working away she discovered that all the roads she took, brought her back home to Kildysart County Clare in Ireland

Why? Because "Home is best, Man those Clare Sunsets!!"

Written, composed and performed by Maurice Byrne

(Special thanks goes to:
Michael Roddy (USA) on Uilleann Pipes and Niall Alderman (USA) on Guitar for their kind permission to use their wonderful rendition of The Kildysart Reel / Craigs Pipes at the end of my song)

KILDYSART SUNSETS © Maurice Byrne 2020

Verse 1
She left to seek her fortune
With lots of skills and options
The boys all tried to date her
But none of them could catch her
For very long – She’d say so long…

Verse 2
No, she never suffered fools
They were never that much use
Time again the simple truth
Empty words can be so cruel
She won’t deny – she takes her time

Chorus:
She’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong
Maybe she felt she won’t belong
So she kept her compass set
And once a month she headed west
Home is best – man those Clare sunsets (x 2)

Bridge
Sometimes if she was upset
There’s nothing like a Clare sunset
To help a girl - help a girl forget

Verse 3
Then good fortune came her way
Now every week she gets to stay
Right there wh4ere she needs to be
Kildysart, Clare beside the sea
Right there where she needs to be
Kildysart, Clare beside the sea

Chorus
She’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong
She’s back home where she belongs
Because she kept her compass set
And she knew that it pointed West

TAG
Yeah home is best – Man those Clare sunsets ( x 2 )
She’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong
She’s back home where she belongs
Because she kept her compass set
And that it pointed West
